Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really worth it to return to college?
Yes! Returning to college is a positive step that will empower you to earn more money, advance your career, and improve your life. College graduates make about $1 million more during their lifetimes (on average) than those who do not have a college degree.
I already have a good job, so why should I return to college?
We live in an ever-changing world, and in today’s economy it is wise to stay one step ahead. Studies show college graduates are less likely to be unemployed as they tend to find jobs faster than those without degrees, allowing them to rebound faster from downsizing and unemployment. Most employers today use computer screening for job applicants, weeding out those who don’t have college degrees. So while you may have a decent job now, earning a college degree could prove to be a valuable asset if your situation ever changes.
Can a Re-Entry Concierge help me with registration and finding classes that fit my work and family schedules?
Yes! We understand that returning to college can be quite challenging for adults who are juggling the demands of family, work and other responsibilities. Your campus’ Re-Entry Concierge will assist you in making a smooth transition back to college and in succeeding once you're there. In addition, our NSHE colleges and universities offer many flexible options including online classes, evening classes and select weekend offerings. Accelerated classes are also available, especially during the summer semesters, allowing you to complete a course in 4–8 weeks instead of the traditional 13–14 weeks. Your campus’ Re-Entry Concierge can help you identify classes that fit your schedule so that you can succeed.
Money is tight right now, so how am I supposed to pay for my classes?
There are many financial assistance options available including federal and state grants, as well as low interest student loans. The individual colleges also offer a variety of scholarships based on need or merit. However, to be eligible for any financial aid you must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You must list on your FAFSA all of the Nevada colleges that you are considering attending.
If you are not sure which Nevada college or university fits your needs, a campus Re-Entry Concierge can help you decide, as well as assist you with filling out your FAFSA.
Also, don’t forget to ask your current employer if they provide tuition assistance for their employees. Many companies encourage and support their employees to further their education and it never hurts to ask.
